1. Make a vow.

Kua kātara te metua i te tamaiti kia riro ‘ei ‘orometua mē tae ki te pakari‘anga.
The father made a vow that his son should become a pastor.

2. Lay a curse on.

Kua kātara‘ia e te ariki tāna tamā‘ine ‘auraka kia ‘uānga-‘ia.
The king laid a curse of barrenness on his daughter. [? kā-3, tara5.]
