‘ōpape, ‘ōpope

‘ōpape, ‘ōpope, n. Current.

Kua ‘akaruke rāua i te vaka ē kua peke i te ‘ōpape ki te moana.
They abandoned the canoe and the current took it out to sea;

‘E pakari te ‘ōpape, kāre e rauka ia tāua kia ‘oe nā raro i te ava ki uta.
The current is (too) strong, we won’t be able to paddle ashore through the reef channel. [Tah. ‘ōpape.]
