paepae, n.

1. The grounds around the house of an ariki, mata‘iapo, or other notable, usually marked out by stones or by a raised platform of pebbles adjacent to the house.

Ko te paepae tēia o Tangi‘ia i tōna no‘o‘anga ki konei.
This was Tangi‘ia’s

paepae
when he lived here;

Kua kake te ariki ki runga i tōna paepae.
The king ascended his

paepae.
