1. Internode, length between two nodes on (e.g.) bamboo, sugarcane.

‘E ko‘e pana roroa tēia.
There is a long distance between the nodes on this bamboo;

E ‘a‘ati i tēta‘i panā tō nā Kāvea.
Break Kāvea off a section of sugarcane.

2. Link (in chain).

E rua ā‘au pana e kiriti i tēnā vīvī.
You need to take two links off that chain;

te pana ‘openga o te vīvī,
the last link of the chain.
