ta‘ero

ta‘ero, (-a, -‘ia).

1. Intoxicated, giddy and sick (from narcotics or toxic substance).

Kua ta‘ero ‘a Puna, nā Ti‘a i ‘āngai ki te kava.
Puna’s drunk, Ti‘a gave him the liquor to drink;

‘E ta‘ero kava tō tērā‘o tangata.
That fellow is drunk;

Kua ta‘ero‘ia te ika i te kai‘anga i te ‘ora.
The fish were poisoned through eating the

‘ora; Kua ta‘eroa au i te kai‘anga i te matū puaka.
The pork fat poisoned me (made me ill and giddy);

Kua ta‘ero au nō te kai‘anga i te ‘ava‘ava.
Smoking made me giddy.

2. Toxic, intoxicating.

‘E ika ta‘ero tēna mē kainga‘ia.
That fish is poisonous to eat.
