‘uipā

‘uipā, (-‘ia).

1. Meet, assemble, hold a meeting.

I ‘uipā ana mātou i teia rā, kāre rā i oti.
We had a meeting today but we didn’t finish it;

Kāre e rauka te ‘uipā, ‘e maki te ‘aka‘aere.
We can’t meet today, the president is ill;

Kua ‘uipā mai te tangata ki tō mātou ‘ōire i te ‘ākarakara tu‘epōro.
People flocked to our village to watch the rugby;

‘E aronga ‘uipā putuputu tika ai kōtou.
You always seem to be having meetings.

2. Put or bring together, assemble, call to a meeting.

Kua ‘uipā te ‘ākarakara i te ‘ua rākau ki te ngā‘i ‘okota‘i kia ‘ākara‘ia.
The inspector had all the fruits brought to one place for inspection;

Kua ‘uipā‘ia te tangata.
The people were called to a meeting.
