I trimmed the hem of her petticoat with lace;

Mē tā‘iti‘ia ka mānea.

(a) Tie on, around or up, tie a knot, bind, tether.

2. n. Binding, (shoe-) lace.

A piece of wire is the best thing to bind that with to stop it breaking;

Plait the binding on your reef-sandals a little bit longer;
