tane‘a. Barren, desert, waste (of land).
Kua tane‘a ‘ua taua ‘enuā ra i te rave a te vai.
The land was left quite barren through the action of the water;
‘e ‘enua tane‘a ‘ua mei te mētēpara rāi,
a waste land, just like a desert;
Kua ‘akaruke rāua i taua ‘enuā ra nō te tane‘a.
They left that land because it was barren.
