tao2, (-a, ia, -nā).

1. Bake in an umu.

Kāre e tao te kai, kā tunu.
The food isn’t going to be baked but boiled;

Kua pakapaka tēta‘i pae kai i te tao‘anga‘ia.
Some of the food got burnt in baking;

Kua taona te ‘a‘ai ma tēta‘i kai kē. The ‘a‘ai
fish was baked together with various other foods. Umu tao puaka, a pork oven.

2. Food for baking, an oven load.

‘Ea‘a te tao i tā‘au umu?
What are you going to bake in your oven?
